Nick tuning a hovercraft's ECU from a laptop on a workbench in the snow.
Tuned a hovercraft in the snow

Got a call about a hovercraft and asked if I could sort it. I said yes before I'd fully thought it through, then spent a very cold day with a laptop balanced on a wooden bench in the snow.

Built a tuning business from nothing

Skuzzle Motorsport started as a passion project and grew into one of the UK's better-known names for Mazda MX5 performance tuning. A decade of design, fabrication, engine calibration, and — occasionally — driving the cars myself on track. I closed it in 2020 to get some of my life back, on my own terms.

Wrote the software behind the UK's traffic lights

As a Software Developer at Swarco UK & Ireland, I built remote monitoring and configuration software for traffic lights, variable message signs other traffic management systems.

Designed and made things, by hand

Years of CAD, CNC machining and laser cutting — first professionally at a plastics and signage firm, later for my own parts and prototypes. There's a particular satisfaction in taking something from a sketch to a CAD model to a part you can hold.

Built a game from scratch in a month

Raining Cats and Dogs is a Unity project I built with my daughter (8yo) in a month for the 2022 GitHub Game Off jam — I did the code design and she did the unintentionally unhinged art work. It's live and playable in the browser, no download needed.
